Well, I don't know much about Mattingly, but I thought SI's article on A-Rod a week back made him look pretty stupid...
Amid these distractions Rodriguez developed a mechanical flaw in his swing in which he wrapped his wrists as they moved back to a cocked position.
"He was like that in spring training," New York hitting coach Don Mattingly says, "and because he was new to us, I thought, Well, maybe this is how he does it. But as [he struggled]--two, three months--I decided, O.K., maybe this isn't right."
The first thing that occurred to me as I read this was "Mattingly, you idiot, why didn't you look at some tape?" To think it took two or three months for Mattingly to realize this wasn't right when he could've just looked at tape of A-Rod in Texas... Well, it makes me kinda frustrated that I had to endure A-Rod's down season on a couple fantasy teams last year.
