Oddly enough, I just finished an article about this very subject a couple of days ago.
Nomar getting voted in at this year's All-Star Game is just plain nuts. #1. He won't play since he's missed most of the season hurt. #2. Even when healthy this year he did squat. Just the two most obvious reasons.
Here's hoping that one day voters open their eyes and vote for the guys having the best seasons.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

This isn't a new voting procedure. Its been stupid and commercialized for quite a long time. Its great that the fans get to stuff ballots for it, who in the hell wants to watch Neifi Perez at the All-Star game even if he is tearing the cover off the ball?
On the bright side:
The fans only vote in a part of the team, the rest the manager gets to load-up with his own players.
There is some good that could come from fans voting for injured players. If they're injured and can't start, then someone truly deserving can get the spot instead of another popular player from a major market team.
Let's say that Griffey got hurt early on, but is still voted to start the game, along with Bobby Abreu and Carlos Lee (two names I just picked out of the air). Miguel Cabrera is left out in the cold-he's just not that popular of a player. With the voting he doesn't stand a chance, but with the injury to Griffey, a heads up manager will give him the starting nod.
I agree that the system is flawed, but usually deserving players at least make the team.
This is why the informed fans like us need to vote 25 times to right the system! I think I've already filled out like 10 ballots... 15 more to go by the deadline...
The All Star game has no rules for voting, so it's what you think it should be. I'd rather a player with a track record of being an All Star make it than some flash in the pan who is having a good 1st 2 months.
It's basically a popularity contest and I don't really have a problem with that.
My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.
