Nope.

Seeing as how it's illegal and there are actual medicines that do a better job than the illegal drug, getting rid of the illegal drug makes sense, doesn't it?
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
For the record, I didn't call it medicine, I called it medication. BUT - Curative drugs are medicated, but so are painkillers. Have you ever had an operation, Mad? Have they ever prescribed painkillers to help you deal with it? Would you consider these medications? And don't things that make you feel better, when prescribed by a doctor, generally imply medicine?

So are you saying, it should be illegal because it's illegal? Q: Should mj be legalized? A: No. Q: Why not? A: Because it's illegal.
I've known several pot heads in my life and most of them didn't have enough brain cells left to tie their shoes.
I've known alcoholics who can't get out of bed without the bottle of whiskey right alongside them. People get hit by cars and shot by guns. Is it the car's fault? The gun's? The whiskey's? Or is it a person's fault, one way or another?
Anyhow, legalizing pot so people can get high is silly. Listening to people try to convince others that pot isn't all that bad and that it should be legal is pretty hilarious though. Other than getting high and helping with pain, there's absolutely no basis to argue for legalizing it. None. Zero.
Hrm. Sounds like it serves the same purposes as alcohol, cigarettes, and a zillion other things that really don't have any redeeming social value, yet are legal. I still don't think this has been sufficiently explained why, besides the '30s-era hysteria.
Not to mention the message that legalizing marijuana would send to kids. What do you think all the kids would think? Well if they were wrong about marijuana, then are they wrong about cocaine? Heroin? Not exactly the message to put in kid's heads.
Good point, but here's something else: I've known many kids who could have gone ahead and acquired cocaine, heroin, etc, and I could have done the same. But I and other don't, and why? Not because it's illegal, although that helps. It's because those other things KILL YOU. This is a distinction that most potheads I've known make. Common sense tells you not to do something that could kill you pretty easily. But it's not just the job of common sense to tell the kids that, too. [/quote]
well done wharfrat, saved me from doing some writing there.
to get back on topic, am I the only one at odds with the anti-Constitutional nature and logic of the ruling? Can someone convince me that this ruling was Constitutionally consistent?

The point is you only know that pot is a hallucinogen from reading, which is for the most part crap. Tabacco is a hallucinagen, I have dipped and the first few times I did it I was pretty buzzed. I know you aren't going to try and pot and you shouldn't its not good for your lungs, you shouldn't do it if you don't have a good reason, however, you shouldn't tell people what it does if you have never been on it to know the side effects.
As a drug, marijuana is classfied as a hallucinogen. I'm just going by what science says. As for marijuana smoke dangers towards your lungs, even this pretty much pro drugs website admits it isn't good: http://thegooddrugsguide.com/cannabis/dangers.htm
smoking Smoking any drug is unhealthy. Cannabis is no exception. The smoke actually contains higher concentrations of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) than tobacco smoke. Cannabis smokers generally inhale more smoke for longer depositing more than 4 times as much tar on their lungs as cigarette smokers. To balance this, however, they smoke less joints and smoke less often.
Worse is if you combine cannabis and tobacco. If you are a heavy smoker of cannabis and tobacco joints (more than 10 a day) you are signicantly increasing your risk of contracting lung disease. Recent studies show that the greatest pre-cancerous abnormalities appear in those who smoke the two drugs together. (1)
Another important factor is that most cannabis smokers stop when they reach their 30s. Long term surveys of cigarette smokers showed that those who stop before the age of 35 had only a very slightly increased risk of lung cancer. The same may apply to cannabis. (2)
Oh and Phatferd, nicotine is classified as a stimulant, not a hallucinogen. By the way, I semi agree with the legalization, since its just about as dangerous as cigarettes, not as quite alcohol, though those should both be banned.

The dozens of times I have smoked weed, I never once saw purple monkeys or flying rabbits. The hundreds of times I have seen friends under the influence, they have never seen things either. My whole point this whole time is you can't just believe what is written on this topic. There is a huge misconception on this topic. I don't care what tabacco is classified as, I have done both and I get the same "buzz" from both. There are too many people making money on tabacco, therefore the so called "research" and "facts" on it are scewed to their advantage.

Hallucinogens do not make you see purple monkeys or flying rabbits and such. Well LSD can but its a misconception. Marijuana is scientifically a hallucinogen, but its effects are usually similar to a stimulant or depressents. I really guess I should trust you. Have you graduated college? WIth a doctorate? I guess I should trust you more than any doctor, just because you're a pot head. This isn't even by like government doctors and scientists, this is international. If you think tobacco is a stimulant, because you get a buzz, thats a trait for a stimulant, which is what it is. Marijuana has no set effects, but scientifically it is classified as a hallucinogen. That does not mean that you see pink elephants and yellow matter custard dripping from a dead dogs eye. ( )
There you go classifying people into a group. Calling me a pothead shows your view on the entire issue. I am not a pothead. I am 21 years old and have smoked pot maybe 20-30 times in my life and haven't for over a year. That wouldn't make me a pothead. I suffer from anxiety and pot was the best thing for it and I didn't suffer any side effects that put me or anyone else in danger. I took tests in college after smoking and I would get A's and B's, my mind wasn't off in some other place.
To all those who see people who smoke pot and see how slow and stupid they are, for the most part are doing other drugs that make them that way. Some of the more popular drugs these days are painkillers and many of these cause these side effects. If you are going to say well they are doing those other drugs because Marijuana is a gateway to those, I would say that they began drinking alcohol before they smoked pot and therefore what is the true gateway drug?
Another thing, there are doctors who argue the effects of Marijuana. If you are a smart person, which you clearly are, you would know that doctors argue all the time on things. There is not a single issue that doctors don't disagree on. The majority may think Marijuana is a hallucinagen, however, there are others who don't.

Yeah doctors argue all the time. But usually there is a majority, and they are usually correct. Not always. Sorry if I called you a pothead, but I will still say research scientists know far more about the chemicals in marijuana then you do.
