Interesting point brought up here. I have Freel on a couple of teams and it seems to me like he hasn't done anything to warrant being benched. If the Reds do plan on calling up someone, any chance they could deal Freel?
Someone PM slomo, here's the man we need here.....
With the grumbling rumors coming out of Cincy, I wouldn't doubt that a few top guys get shipped out. Whether Freel is one of them or not remains to be seen, but he may end up staying. Perhaps he might be full-time by default in a few weeks... [shrug]
I hope he stays and get the PT he deserves. Up until the last few days where he has been getting benched, I have really been enjoying the SB, .300+ avg, and the runs out of the lead-off spot. If he loses playing time, I really have to look for another SB source. I have a bunch of A-Rod/Rowand/Crisp type guys who could steal like 15-20, so if I can add Freel to that I am in good shape, if not I really lack a good SB guy and might have to consider a trade, but good SB guys are always hard to trade for, because the elite ones are so rare.
Gosh, I like Freel so much that I'm going to keep him in my lineup for the next week and see what happens. I lost Loretta and none of the other 2baseman on the WW excite me. Freel has SOOO much fantasy potential that I think it's worth it to see how things shake out. And I'd hate to drop him, only to have somebody else grab him.

If the dude is helping the team win and hitting well and is not a liability in the field, then he will HAVE to get PT. Managers play the guys who are doing that the best (unless they are morons). Freel's BA is over 300, he gets himself into scoring position with steals, and plays decently at three positions. What's not to love about that?
The Pirates have guys like him - Rob Mackowiak is the prime example. Look at Freddy Sanchez also. He has no real position on the team due to Castillo and Wilson being good at their fielding spots, so they stuck him at 3B because he's swinging a hot bat. Granted, Sanchez's fielding at 3rd could be better, but we needed the offense.
(Don't you just love when I start talking about the Pirates? )
