W Taveras OK to start this week

Postby LetsPlay2 » Mon Jun 06, 2005 5:13 am

Even though CBS says:

"News: Willy Taveras left at the start of the seventh inning Sunday with a strained left hamstring. He is considered day to day. He was 4-for-4 to raise his average to .276 before leaving with the strain.

Analysis: Not a good time for an Astros base-stealer to have a hamstring problem with the Mets on tap. Mike Piazza is the worst throwing catcher in the big leagues and could have been taken advantage of by Taveras. Reserve Taveras in all leagues for Fantasy Week 10 (June 6-12). Speed is his primary game and that seems like it will be neutralized at best this week."

The latest official word off the Astros website is:

"Good news, bad news: Willy Taveras' first career four-hit game on Sunday was marred by his early exit, but he's confident the effects of his strained left hamstring won't carry over to Tuesday's series opener in New York.

Taveras felt some discomfort in his leg prior to the game with the Cardinals, a condition that presumably worsened when he had to leg out two infield hits. He left after the sixth inning.

"I took a chance and played," he said. "It bothered me a little more later, but it's not too bad. Today I did a lot of running.

"With the day off tomorrow, I should be ready by Tuesday.""

Hope this helps....Good luck.

Let's hope Willie can be ready in time for the series at Shea, even slowed a little bit he should be able to swipe a few off of Piazza.

He's not in the starting lineup tonight. Hopefully he's just getting an extra day of rest. We'll see.
