Zito to Padres?

Postby Rance Mulliniks » Sat Jun 04, 2005 12:20 pm

A Bay area radio station had been reporting this rumour. I think rotoworld picked up on it, too.

Who woulda believed a year ago that all of the "Big 3" in Oakland might not be there in 2005?!

Down the road, the Padres could explore the trade market for starting pitching, but General Manager Kevin Towers said yesterday all is "very quiet" on the trade front and that the successful return of pitcher Woody Williams could keep it quiet.

"We don't have any trade discussions going on," Towers said. "I'm waiting to get Woody back. Once we get Woody back, if Woody is healthy, I feel pretty comfortable with Woody, (Adam) Eaton, (Jake) Peavy, (Brian) Lawrence and (Tim) Stauffer. We're just trying to get healthy."

this mornings UT. ;-D

Pitching in Petco can help any pitcher. Zito's value would instantly rise.

If Oakland paid some of the salary, then I'd be all for it. Zito would be back with Ramon Hernandez, who is the only major league catcher Zito has had success with. Besides, Zito went to the University of San Diego High School, so the deal does make sense. It'd put Zito in Petco and re-unite him with Hernandez; I like what that'd do to his fantasy value ;-D .

On a more practical note, I doubt this is going to happen. If the Padres are just trying to bring in an arm for this season then I can understand that, but if they're trying to bring a local kid back home I think Mark Prior after next season is the better man.

But a Zito/Chavez deal for Burroughs/Nady/Barfield/Insert minor league pitcher here/insert minor league hitter here deal would be okay by me :-) :-D . And Billy Beane supposedly loves Burroughs. He can have him. :-P

Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 said Zito will likely be traded before the deadline and the Cubs will almost definitely add a SP prior the deadline. He said the Cubs are interested in Zito but nothing is really being discussed right now.

Zito in Wrigley?? :-?

Agreed, the Padres can't afford to take a risk on a pitcher who may be on the down side of his career. There has to be other options available.

Zito would be a completely different picher in the NL..

Instead of facing the Red Sox Yankees Rangers Angels..hell be facing the Giants Brewers LA at a pitchers park.

Imagine Zito,Peavy and Eaton...they would be hard to beat in the playoffs.

This is probably the best thing that could happen to Zito.
