I agree, and commented on it a few times in here last winter. I hate Kerry, not so much because of his political party, but because he's a total fake. There's a great sound byte (not sure if you've heard it) of Kerry during the pennant race pontificating about "Manny Ortez" (yes, or-TEZZ) . It was so obvious he wouldn't know Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz if he ran into them on the street.
Affleck is at least FROM Boston and has always been a Boston sports fan... but it was distracting when he sat in the front row with J-Lo a few times last year.
Fallon is basically a hose-bag... I got very tired of him cracking up laughing in EVERY SNL sketch he ever appeared in. And the Fever Pitch hype during the 04 post-season was gross.
I have not seen Fever Pitch... don't really plan to.... might rent it when it comes out on DVD, but I don't expect much. I'm not a Drew Barrymore fan. But it IS based on a novel by Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, About a Boy) so maybe the story itself will make it watchable.
Bottom line, I'd rather be trapped in a bar with 20 REAL Yankee fans than with 20 FAKE Red Sox fans... at least I could talk baseball with the Yankee fans... It would be fun to re-live Fisk/Munson... Mike Torrez... Bucky... Reggie... Yaz... etc... Sox-Yanks rivalry in the 70s (when I was a young'un) was pretty fierce.
Peace.... and much love to the REAL baseball fans in the Cafe' and elsewhere... no matter WHO your favorite team is.
