"We're digging out of a pretty big hole," Randa said.
The Reds are 21-30. They entered Monday 12½ games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League and 8½ games out of the NL Wild Card.
"June is a critical part of the season," Randa said. "That's the reality of baseball."
Randa knows if the Reds tread water through June changes will likely come in July. He said veterans and players on one-year contracts - he qualifies on both counts - could be traded.
Can we start talking about Dunn again? Isn't he on his last year contract? I think this adds smoke to the fire about Dunn/Wagner's situations and current trade rumors with Philly, Chicago, and NY.
Who else is coming to an end with thier contract/and or considered a veteran?

I hope to god Randa goes and Encarnacion gets a shot--I would love to have Encarnacion build value down the stretch run of my keeper league so that I can trade him for something that will help me this year.

What does Encarnacion have to do with this??? He's on the Marlins and plays a different position.

Dunn is on a one-year contract, but he still has 2 years of arbitration left before he can become a FA.
That's not to say he won't be traded, but it just an answer to your question.
The biggest problem with the Reds trading quality players away is that our GM is a HORRIBLE judge of talent and we're highly likely to get trades someone closer to Victor Zambrano than Carlos Zambrano should we decide to trade away for example Dunn and Wagner for some starting pitching.

I feel sorry for the Reds fans. Among the most knowledgeable and loyal in MLB. One of the best! They deserve better. Time for Lindner to dig into his Great American pockets and sign Dunn long term and give that team some stablilty.
