Victor Martinez

This guy was a top prospect and last year he produced really well but I get the strong sense that this year is his "sophmore slump". He just looks terrible at the plate and he has all year. Is this guy even a buy-low candidate anymore? The catcher I have now (Ramon Hernandez) has been steady all year so I don't really see a reason to buy low on Victor, especially since his major league stay is so short. Am I crazy or is Victor just going to be a rebound star next year?
Can't worry about tomorrow's pain tonight.

I have the exact same situation with Ramon Hernandez as my current catcher and Martinez either rotting on one team or available in FA. I've been thrilled with Hernandez's production and pleasantly surprised with his BA being over .300 all season. I don't see VM's ceiling being much higher than what I'm getting now from Ramon so I'm not dropping anyone worth their weight in creatine for him.

I think it was Saturday VMart had a 2B and a HR -- the first game this year where he had two extra-base hits. I'm not selling that as the begining of a breakout but merely as an example of how poorly he has played.

The trigger point for me will be when he is permanently dropped to 6-7-8 in the lackluster CLE lineup. To me that will signal that management has lost faith. In almost any other lineup that would have happened by now. And with Juan Gone coming into the mix, it may be only a matter of weeks.

He will not break out. And even if he does - it won't be beneficial. Look, this guy had a great August/September last year - that's it. He's been cold as a fish since March. Every time he actually makes contact with the ball (which I can count on two hands this season) people start saying "He's coming out of it." I know you don't want to cut your losses, but sometimes in life, you have to in order to get in the profit rehlm again.

Now, if you have a bench spot open, maybe I'd justify keeping him but I can also name 20 other wire players that deserve that spot moreso than V-Mart and his craptacular hitting. Drop. Drop. Drop. :-t

come on guys vmart is really good. probably the number 2 or 3 catcher in fantasy baseball [a healthy javy #`1]0. their whole team has been pretty crappy right now so it's only a matter of time. and please don't say that ramon and vmart are on the same level. it's just a bad comparison :-t .

VMart: First Full Season:
.283/23/108 OBP .359

Super Joe Charboneau: First Full Season
.289/23/87 (he wasn't hitting 4th) OBP .358

Victor Martinez: First Full Season:
.283/23/108 OBP .359

"Super Joe" Charboneau: First Full Season
.289/23/87 (he wasn't hitting 4th) OBP .358

Coincidence? Hmmmmm :-?

Nothing to do with BronBombers comment, but maybe -- just maybe -- it's not wise to proclaim (as many of us did, myself included) someone a top 3 player at their position until after they've played, oh, perhaps 2 full seasons?
