MONITOR HELP PLEASE

Postby Lofunzo » Mon May 30, 2005 12:37 pm

I am quite sure that my monitor is shot. It's quite a few years old and it got really dark and only displayed blues and reds. Anyway, I hooked up an old POS monitor for now and it works so that pretty much says it there. Sound good so far?? I am assuming that it either can't be fixed or isn't worth it and it was 17 or 19 inches. I'm not sure which 1.

Does anyone know of a good spot to look for a replacement?? I was gonna check out EBAY. Should I also look towards a decent flatscreen?? I don't wanna break the bank but I also don't wanna get a POS. Basically, any opinions here would be appreciated. My computer is pretty good and I want a good monitor as well. Thanks.

Hmm, sounds like your Green CRT is burnt out. I don't know how much that costs to fix, but yeah, I doubt it is worth it.

eBay sounds like a good place to find a monitor. I also don't know how much flat screens are, but I'm sure they are in the hundreds of dollars, like $400 maybe. !+)

tigerdirect.com is my favorite online shop. You should be able to find a good 17" flatscreen for under $200 there. If you are in the bargain hunting mood, the reconditioned monitors usually come with a great discount there and the warranty is solid.

my monitor went out earlier this year,,,, i looked around at getting one and i found one at the local college.... they sold me a nice flat screen for 150 dollars... i do quite a bit of business with them with my job, and one of the ladies had told me in the past that they updated the office computers about every year or so... i just took a chance that they had updated when my went out,,, and luckily they had a few monitors for sell...... might be worth a shot to you lo, if u are near a college.... ;-D

I'm a little wary of buying computer equipment, especially things like monitors, on Ebay. I'd rather pay a little more just for the security.

TigerDirect, like Tavish mentioned is very good, and another site I use is PriceWatch.com. PriceWatch can be a pain for monitors because there is a lot to look through but if you've got the time you can find steals sometimes.

No, sorry, no real help to offer. I'll mention it to my wife tomorrow and see what she says though. She does this kind of stuff as her job. ;-D

Not that Tav needs any backup, but I second this.
