I just never cease to be amazed at the ineptness of some franchises. What has a team like Cincy that is going nowhere this year got to gain by using someone like Weathers as closer? They looking to groom a top closer for the future?...apparently not.

Wagner is not ready to close....yet.

Weathers is not a Major league caliber pitcher...anymore.

Graves is their only real option and I'm completely baffled as to why he didn't keep the job. He converted 10 of 12 save opps. Stupid, absolutely stupid.

I don't plan on cutting wagner in any of my leagues just yet. Perhaps if there was a compelling FA closer on the waiver wire? Doubtful thats gonna happen.

People who bought into Wagner bought in at the lowest possible value...... FREE. If he does become the closer in cincy then you've just stolen yourself one of the great FA pickups of your league.

Since it didn't cost you anything, i guess its easy to cut and run, but since it cost you zero today and could be worth $20-25 a few days from now, I'd hold out and see how things develop.

One the bright side of this, with all the pressure, well onto his way to getting completed shelled, and a bad defensive play that cost him dearly, he did pull himself back together and got it done. Mets fans from the Benetiz days know exactly what Im talking about.

Graves was beyond awful, and he sealed his fate when he lobbed the middle finger at the heckler.

None of these guys have any legit value at this point (Graves, Mercker, Wagner, Weathers). Better off with a Jesse Crain, who won't get any saves but is well on his way toward garnering Vulture of the Year honors.

When is someone reasy to assume the closers role?

Man either has the talents and the guts to do it or doesn't. Weathers is well past his prime. Graves proved capable in the past and I think Cincy just panicked at a low point. Graves was never a great closer, but he was an OK one in the past. What they think they have to gain with Weathers is beyond me.
