Pierre...bad year?

Postby Mercer Boy » Thu May 26, 2005 11:15 pm

He's hitting .258 (updated through tonight), has 24 runs scored, and has 8 steals. That's under his normal .300 average, 100 runs, and 45 SB pace. I wasted a fairly high pick on this guy...I assume I'm just supposed to stash this dude until he breaks out of it? Kind of stinks to lose the steals, but he's really not helping me in the places he needs to help me.

guy in my league drafted him second round... he's sitting near the bottom of the league. then again he also traded his first round pick (tejada) to me for a pakage involving rolen and odalis perez at the beginning of the year. id stash him though, you wont get much trade value for him and hes bound to heat up, hes got a great lineup around him and has been a solid player throughout his career.

He shouldn't be slowing down at 27, but there are signs Pierre is doing just that. While he did garner his 45 SB last year, he was also caught stealing a whopping 24 times.

Also, he's now got a very potent duo in Cabrera and Delgado in those 3/4 slots, so the Marlins are not so reliant on smallball to manufacture runs. I still think Pierre will get to 100 runs scored and hit .300, but I projected him for "just" 35 SB this year and I'm sticking with those numbers.

Pierre will be fine. I guess you can say that I'm being optimistic because I own him in 3 of my 4 leagues....but he'll heat up at some point.

FWIW, he hit .232 in June last year, and followed it with .358, .339, .352 and .500 (12 ABs) through the rest of the season. ;-)

Much of his high average can be attributed directly to his speed. I think that his ST injury is still bothering him. That would explain his drop in steals and hits.
