When is it gonna end?!?!? Anyone know anything more encouraging about this? Will Bruney or Valverde get the saves in his absence?
May 26 The Associated Press reports Arizona Diamondbacks CL Brandon Lyon (elbow) had a second MRI on his right elbow that revealed some changes of the ulnar collateral ligament in the joint. Lyon will rest 10 days and seek a second opinion before a plan of action is determined. -KFFL
May 26 Diamondbacks closer Brandon Lyon will get second opinion on his injured elbow when he visits specialist Lewis Yocum in the next few days. The Diamondbacks team doctor Michael Lee, found "irregularities" in the ulnar collateral ligament of Lyon's elbow on Wednesday after Lyon underwent his second magnetic resonance imaging exam in two days, the Arizona Republic reports. If there is a tear in the ulnar ligament that he had surgery on last season, he would have to undergo Tommy John surgery, which would sideline him for 12-months. That being said, Lee said "Most of the ligament looks absolutely perfect and fantastic, and this is more of a precautionary approach that we're taking at this point in time."
Views: After the solid run that saw him convert nine of his 10 save opportunities, the elbow injury is frustrating for Lyon, the Diamondbacks, and fantasy owners. The best thing fantasy owners who employ the services of Lyon can do at this point, is to do whatever possible to get Brian Bruney and Jose Valverde on their roster as insurance since they figure to split save duties in Lyon's absence. We'll be looking forward to hearing what baseball's leading expert on elbow injuries in Dr. Yocum, has to say about the injury, it's prognosis, and any timetable for Lyon's return. -Fanball
