Lets talk Davies

I've never seen him pitch in the minors, but from scouting reports I've read, in the minors, he'd be able to get it up to 94, and sometimes 95 in certain situations if he put an extra umph into it. I'm just saying, he's still pretty young, and he's got some time to fill out that body, he may add an extra MPH or two his fastball.

Like I said, their velocities is the big difference between Schmidt and Glavine. Schmidt "blows it by them" because he throws his fastball much harder. Glavine is a softy because he doesn't have much on his fastball... that's why Davies is right in between them. Not a complete softy, but doesn't blow hitters away.

Bobby Cox said RHP Kyle Davies might be the most impressive
young starting pitcher he has seen with the Braves -- strong
praise considering the run of excellent pitchers they have
developed. Davies pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings Saturday in
Pittsburgh and is 2-1 with an 0.77 ERA in four starts. Cox
said, "He's way ahead of anybody we've had come up, with his
command, three above-average pitches, his mound presence,
athletic ability and smartness. He's a polished kid. I don't
remember anybody like him."

Wow. Much higher praise than we might have given the rookie
pitcher. It is his polish, not his stuff, that is drawing
raves reviews, though, so he might not have a Cy Young
ceiling. As it is, Davies is in a great situation in Atlanta
to thrive as a rookie pitcher. In terms of his Fantasy
value, he should be owned in all NL-only leagues and used in
mixed leagues when the matchups are right. If he continues
to pitch consistently, all Fantasy formats should have him
being owned, especially pitching for the contending Braves.
