So the kid looked great in his first two starts in the Show (especially against Boston bats) - despite his bad performances in AAA. He'll probably get two more starts. Do you think his shelf life extends beyond this? Should I Tonya Harding Smoltz leg for insurance?

He should get more than 2 starts-thomson is out for 3 months. So he'll stick in the rotation during that time i would think.

I don't know what to think about Davies, honestly. None of his pitches are very good, but he posted very good k/bb ratios throughout the minors.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pitched a few good games and then imploded spectacularly. But his numbers would indicate he's a good pitcher.

I think he's headed for the bullpen when Hampton/Thompson are healthy. Or back to the minors. He just doesn't have the stuff to be a major league starter.

What's funny to me is to hear on XM (and read other places) that he's an average pitcher based solely on his few starts in AAA this year - and simply ignoring how well he pitched in every other year prior to this year. He had a couple of bad starts in AAA that skewed his numbers - but I don't think removed him from his status as the #1 pitching prospect in the Braves system.

As a rookie, I'm sure he'll struggle, But I also think you could do a lot worse. With Thomson out for 2-3 months, it looks like he has the job until then.

According to BA, he has great command of his fastball. 12-5 curve with a nasty bite but needs more consistency. His change up is the best in the system. The kid has the goods and his confidence must be sky high from his two great outings. Plus how can you go wrong with a Braves pitching prospect nowadays?

It's not like Davies came out of nowhere as he's gotten some recognition for being a pretty good prospect, just being a little short of some of the more elite prospects. He probably could have used a little more time in the minors though.

John Sickels, whom I find to be very respectable to evaluate prospects I don't have much info on, graded him a B+ prospect prior to this season.
