I'm pretty sure it does. He gave up three runs and didn't record an out. If you plug the numbers in the ERA and WHIP formula you end up dividing by zero and anything divided by 0 is infinity.

Not sure how true this is but it seems like to me that a lot of Japanese pitchers burn out after a few years.

Some of them burn out as quickly as after one year. Nomo, Ishii, Sasaki, Otsuka, Takatsu, Ohka, etc...

I just meant the other team had Otsuka in the lineup, and he went in and gave up three runs without getting an out. If Otsuka's ERA and whip for the day were infinite, I would expect the other manager's #'s in the roto league to have taken a hit. Infinite's a pretty big number, but this guy didn't gain or lose any points. Does that make sense?

Methinks one needs a lesson in math.

3 ERs over 0 IPS is Infinite ERA for that day (or indeterminate\undefined depending on which math notation you want to use).

ERA for a team over the course of the season is ER/IPs * 9. So one night's 3 ERs would up the numerator by 3 while leaving the denomitor the same for the running total and not have a great impact at this point on a fantasy team's ERA though it certainly is not going to help.

Last night on the broadcast they kept going on about how with runners on he loses pretty much every advantage he has. His major asset is the deception and with runners he can't use the leg kick and stuff so all that's left is mediocre stuff. Look at these splits

What kind of deception is it when the opp have a BAA of .349? As someone who was really pushing for him, he sucks ass on a good day this year.

Bochy was on the radio this morning and said he will be giving Otsuka some 6th and 7th inning work for the next few days. Didn't mention much about what he thought the problem was, so most likely just a mental thing.

He sounded pretty confident that he'd earn that 8th inning spot back shortly.

I actually gave away Eaton in a drunken haze for Otsuka (seriously - don't as why...) and was never so pissed off in all my days for every wrong reason possible involving both the trade and both players seemingly opposite performances this year. I still hate myself. Nothing, and I mean nothing stings more than dropping a traded player.
