Why do men risk life and limb every season? Consider this: In 2004, Alaskan fishermen caught 15.4 million pounds of red king crab; at $4.70 per pound, the harvest was worth $65.8 million at the dock. But the potential to make such big money fast brings with it an all-too-often tragic consequence: crushed fingers, crippled hands, cracked ribs, broken feet and even death.

Well I do eat a lot of crab. O:-)

Not bad at all for only a few days of exceptionally hard work. ;-D

I haven't seen that show but I've seen a bunch of specials here and there about alaskan crab fishers...they are insane...completely insane...but they make good money.

Very good show. I think 1 or 2 people died that were on the show. Crazy stuff.

The new serious has already had a ship sink and one man over board. I think 5 people have perished. I like to think I could do that but man Im not sure.......It would be a rush the first night and pure pain the remaing days!!!

Crab legs are good!! I think I will try to appreciate them a little more now

Yeah, if people knew how dangerous getting this stuff was, they probably would feel guiltier about eating crab. I don't really though, I love crab and thats their job choice. They make a ton of money.

Have you been watching? They aren't guaranteed crap. They CAN make a lot of money, but they can also land a goose egg if they make 1 bad mistake and fish in a bad spot.
