What can he do with the job all to himself now. He seems to be a figgins clone and now with Jimenez and Aurillia out of the way he plays every day. I'm wondering where he finishes. I'm assuming if he plays every day he can finish anywhere from 40-60 sbs.
I've been trying to figure this out as well from people that know a little bit more about him. I have Taveras on my team as my SB guy but Freel seems like a better option at this point. What are people's take on him?
As soon as the Reds demoted Jiminez last week, I instantly (more or less) traded B. Boone for value b/c I had Freel to step in and be my regular 2B. Now that he's out of that platoon he could be great. This guy is a sparkplug lead-off hitter, he hits for excellent average and seems to have a green light to try to steal often. So he helps very much in three categories, AVG, R, and SB. Only downside is there's never anybody on base when he comes up, so RBI's won't be there, but for what he provides it's a small price to pay, I'll let other guys on my team pick up the slack in those spots.
The fantasy baseball beckett mag I grabbed before the season started has him listed as one of the 5 fastest base stealers in the game, along with Pierre, Podsednik, Abreu, Beltran. I had him earlier in the season but dropped him out of annoyance because he wasn't playing every game. He's stolen 4 bases in his last 5 games and just hit his first "ding dong" today. I just jumped back on board because his 2nd, 3rd, and OF flexibility in addition to the steals was just what I needed.
Now that he's an everyday I expect big things from him.
