Starting DL Players: When the Injury Bug Bites Hard

Postby d18Mike » Wed May 25, 2005 10:51 am

Last night was the straw that broke this camel's back...

I'm in a 14-team Mixed weekly with no DL. In a deep league like this the FA/WW pool is just absolute junk. We have a 5-person bench.

I have 7 starters -- my top-tier guys -- who are either on the DL or are pitchers who will miss their next 1-2 starts, minumum.

Burnett
Clemens
Harden
G. Mota
J. Lopez
F. Thomas
K-Rod

My options are to cut 1-2 of these these guys loose and pick up the scraps in the FA pool. Or just stick 2 DL players into the lineup and push through it until the wounds heal. Could trade, I guess, but have you tried to trade an injured guy lately?

Anyone else bit this hard by the bug? What is your plan?

I'd drop the Big Skirt for some pitching help.

This month, I've lost:

Schmidt (back)
Harden (DL)
Thomson (dropped)
Lyon (traded away)
Lopez (pending decision)
Wily Mo Pena (dropped)
Loretta (dropped)
Huff (bench)
Beltran (bench)

Injury stretches like this separate the fantasy baseball men from the boys.

It's very rare that a player should ever be dropped due to being put on the DL (Unless of course it's a long DL stint, then drop away.) Just ride it out, no sense dropping a good player for some crap guy who will only give you about 10 games, it's a long season.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
