a reputable baseball beat reporter here in Chicago says that the Cubs are very close to completing a deal for a "major hitter and bullpen help", he would not comment on the other team involved but did say it was a NL team, and that each team scouts are currently looking at the other's minor league players, the veteran players have already been agreed on and its just which minor leaguers is holding up the deal, the Cubs player rumored to be on the way out is Corey Patterson, and the 3 rumored teams and players to be involved is the Reds with Adam Dunn and Ryan Wagner, the Rockies with Preston Wilson and Shawn Chacon, and I think the Brewers with Carlos Lee was mentioned but don't quote me on that one. He said the players could be announced later today.
