What is Randy Wolf like?

Just wondering if I should get him, because he is on waiversm and I read he is coming back form an injury soon. Is he worth putting into my lineup in place of Kelvim Escobar?

Depends on your needs. Escobar should do well as the Jays' closer, giving you saves and solid peripheral stats. Wolf is a solid starter who relies on control and mixing up his pitches. He made huge strides last year (although you couldn't tell by looking at his won-lost record). He apparently looked very good in his last rehab start, so the injury probably won't hold him back.

In terms of absolute value (if there is such a thing), I'd give a slight edge to Escobar, but this really depends on what your team needs. Anybody else you could drop? Dropping a closer without picking up any return would hurt.

Note: you could probably get both A-Rod and Randy in a trade for Wolf if you happen to have one of his fans in your league - they're among the most fanatic - and entertaining - in the majors.

Yeah, I was reading that people in philly wear wolf masks or something, I would like to see that!

Anyway, I think you might be right about dropping a closer. I already have 5 Sp's - Colon, Lieber, Pedro, Oswalt and Vazquez and I won't drop any of them for him, so I guess I will have to pass.

My other pitchers are foulke, guadado and benitez and I don't really want to drop them either.

Your pitching staff is very good, so I don't think you need to take a gamble on Wolf (as I do). I like him, I always had him for some time in the last two seasons.

He hasn't been very good, but he's young and has good command of his pitches. If you can drop one of your hitters you could try to trade Wolf after his first starts...

Agreed, with that staff, sit tight, even if Wolf is better than most of the players you'll find on waivers.
