i robbed a homerun in highschool and flipped over the fence but since I had a foot on the ground when I caught the ball he was out.

Ill say it one more time -- you must launch from playing field (fair or foul) catch ball while you are off ground and land in stands. That is a legal catch. CANNOT climb into stands then catch ball (fair or foul).
