Clemens' quest for 300 hurt my team

Okay, I was all geared up for Rocket Roger to get his 300th win today also, but when it became pretty apparent early on that he didn't have it today, they should have yanked him, not let him stay in the game to give up 8 earned runs and throw 133 pitches. If he wasn't shooting for 300, they'd have yanked him much earlier.

As long as I'm complaining, I'll add that the ESPN announcer, I think it was Rick Sutcliffe, who said that they should let Clemens throw 170 pitches if needed, is a raving lunatic.

First announcer: "How many pitches should they let Clemens throw today?"
Sutcliffe (I think): "Oh, they could go up to 170."

First announcer: "170?! Are you serious?"
Sutcliffe (I think): "Oh yeah. Clemens has probably already had games where he threw 155-160 pitches in his career. He could throw 170 if needed."

Ridiculous.

Of course they weren't about to pull him until he absolutely used up everything he had left, since they really wanted him to be able to get #300 today. They left him out there as long as possible, hoping for a rally by the offense to give him the win. You should have just benched him for today, expecting something like this to possibly happen. I would bench him now until he gets #300 because they will probably leave him out there regardless of how hard he gets hit again next start too.

Yeah, that might be good advice, but his next start is against Detroit, so there's no way I'd ever bench him for that one.
