with hairston out i picked up ronnie belliard and it has worked great. i would only play him in colo and perhaps play sean when ronnie isnt in coors. just a thought.
I'm in that situation also. No backup at 3b, so my FA list is very similar. I agree that you should pick up Mueller if he is available. I thought about that a few minutes too long then someone took him from me. Someone dropped V. Castilla yesterday (I put a waiver claim in). I the meantime, I like Helms, his power numbers and upside is intriguing. But what I decided to do was to pick up Teixeira, he's been on a roll, getting playing time and the upside is big.
I'm looking for Hinske to come back big in the 2nd half. That's how I handled it. Good luck.
i'd give wes helms a look. he could be a very cheap source of 25 HRs at third base, but i wouldn't count on him for average or RBIs, as the brewers just are not a perennial run-producing squad.
otherwise, bell is a solid player on a good team... brandon phillips might have good upside.. .still, i'd give helms a go, i mean, what do you have to lose? hinske wasn't exactly re-proving his ROY status this season anyways.
Ok, I went with Belliard and was very happy I got that 5 for 5 performance from him but then he got injured. Then I went with Burroughs and he went 4 for 8 for me then he gets injured too.
Who shall I curse next??
David Bell
Placido Polanco
Geoff Blum
Wes Helms
Eric Munson
Luis Rivas
Alex Cora
Russ Branyan
Mueller and Ramirez are taken. Brian Roberts was picked up by another team while I had Belliard. I tried Wes Helms for a day but I just don't like him that much. Right now, I'm thinking of going with Branyan. 5x5 Roto btw.
Out of that list, I'd go for Placido Polanco. He does bat 2nd in a pretty lethal Phillies lineup, so should at least get you lots of runs and a decent batting average.
