Here's an interesting one: the first professional baseball team (bonus question: name the team) played its first game in 1869. But when was the first professional women's team founded?

Sorry, menyak. Nice try, but no cigar... First of all, the All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League was founded in 1943 (as the All-American Girls' Softball League, by the way). But there were literally hundreds of teams before that league was founded, and the earliest played its first game quite a bit earlier... Any guesses? I'll give this to anyone within five years.

Good movie, by the way, and historically pretty accurate, with a few minor exceptions.

Wild stab... umm... 1902?

Something tells me that the answer to the "bonus question" is Cleveland. Perhaps the Cleveland Browns? I'm a little hesitant to guess at this one because it seems like something that everyone but me would know, but since no one answered yet... :-B

Two good guesses, Eugene, but both are just a smidgin off.

1902 was in the "Bloomer Girls" period of women's baseball - there was no organized league, and the competition was often independent men's teams. I believe all these teams had at least one male player on the roster, though (ultra-bonus question: name the male hall-of-famer who got his start on one of these teams). But the first women professionals were even earlier than that.

And the first pro team of all (men) was close to Cleveland...

Well if it wasn't in Cleveland, it had to be Cinncinati, right? Right? :-o The Cinncinati Red Stockings?

As for the women's league, I've just about given up on that. I could just keep naming dates until I got it right, but that's not very fun. 1865? :-B

Cincinnati is correct! Change :-o to B-) !

Just to clarify: the question calls for the first professional women's team, not league.

And 1865? Before the men? That's going just a bit too far...

Hehe. Yeah, I know. But I decided to go with the trend set by the movie... that is, with womens teams taking over during the wars. Since the Spanish-American war didn't work, I figured I'd go for Civil. 8-o Heck, let someone else answer your stupid question. %-6
