Well, it's pretty much all done now. I've got 2 AV programs going, the Windows Firewall, Ad-Aware and Spybot, so I think I should be alright.

Those of you using Zone Alarm, what do you do after the trial runs out? I know you could change the system date, but that's a pain otherwise.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Having two running at the same time can cause conflicts and security lapses and headaches in general. I had McAfee I got through school running with Norton and I had all kinds of problems. I'm not sure if that was the source of my problems, but I've seen several places that you just want one or the other not both. Spyware programs are a different story though, the more there the better.

There is a free version without a lot of the bells and whistles (AV, spyware, etc) of the pay version. When you installed it you should have had an option to select the full version of the "lite" version or whatever they call it.

I never ran the Windows firewall. I just went to http://www.download.com and got the ZA free version and it has been great for me.

heres the link to tne non trial stripped down (read just firewall. not the security suite.) version of ZA. that way there is no free trial ending persiod and you still get updates.

I don't know then. I know I had all kinds of trouble running McAfee and Noton on the same computer, and when I uninstalled one everything seemed to work fine.

I've never used the Windows firewall. I try not to trust my computer's security to M$ anymore than I have to.
