Doesn't look so good
The Cubs still haven't decided when to call up reliever Joe Borowski from Triple-A Iowa. Borowski, who thought he'd be back by now, has a 2.25 ERA in seven appearances for Iowa, with four strikeouts and three walks over eight innings.
This is the eighth week of his rehab from a broken bone in his right wrist, which was diagnosed as a six- to eight-week recovery.
Manager Dusty Baker prefers an 11-man staff because he likes having an extra bench player. Unless Baker goes to a 12-man staff because of the upcoming stretch of 20 games in 20 days, there is no obvious choice to go down to Iowa in place of Borowski. Michael Wuertz, Todd Wellemeyer, Will Ohman and Cliff Bartosh are throwing well in middle relief, and LaTroy Hawkins has shown signs of improvement.
