Doesn't look so good :-t

The Cubs still haven't decided when to call up reliever Joe Borowski from Triple-A Iowa. Borowski, who thought he'd be back by now, has a 2.25 ERA in seven appearances for Iowa, with four strikeouts and three walks over eight innings.

This is the eighth week of his rehab from a broken bone in his right wrist, which was diagnosed as a six- to eight-week recovery.

Manager Dusty Baker prefers an 11-man staff because he likes having an extra bench player. Unless Baker goes to a 12-man staff because of the upcoming stretch of 20 games in 20 days, there is no obvious choice to go down to Iowa in place of Borowski. Michael Wuertz, Todd Wellemeyer, Will Ohman and Cliff Bartosh are throwing well in middle relief, and LaTroy Hawkins has shown signs of improvement.

THE NEWS

Cubs reliever Joe Borowski was activated from the 15-day disabled list before Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox. He had been sidelined by a non-displaced fracture to his right ulna after being hit by a line drive in an exhibition game against Kansas City.

OUR VIEW

Borowski saved a career-high 33 games for the Cubs in 2003, but missed most of last season after tearing his right rotator cuff. There is little doubt that he will be thrown into the closer role once again, given the Cubs struggles to close out games, case in point their blowing 7-of-15 save opportunities this season. If he is still available in your league, and you need saves help, claim him immediately.

He played yesterday vs the Sox and got all three batters he faced. He looked far from sharp and the ball was hit hard twice, including a flyball to center by Crede that missed being a HR by a few feet.

Being a Cubbies fan myself, and watching almost every game. I live in ILL and watch probably 100 games of cubbies a year or more.

I wouldn't touch borroski with a 10 foot pole. His performance was down bad last year, then he got hurt and made it even worse.

I see him just getting shelled if he comes back.

Dusty baker is a fruit loop anyhow when it comes to bull pen rotation. You'll never freakin know who's going to be the closer even if he does come back anyhow. Bakers too bz looking at stats, and batter vs. pitcher crap from the 7th inning on.

One day it will be dempster, the other day it will be hawkins, the next day it will be ohman, the day after that it might be borroski. ..... stay away ... Let someone else get him and suffer the consequences.

Thats what i'm talking about. It's such a "commitee" anyhow I wouldn't even dream about trying to use him.

Dempster got his 3rd save tonight. 5 pitches, 3 groundouts.

Looks like the job is his unless he blows it.

Dang, and i kept him on the DL for like 3 weeks...

I seriously thought he had closer potential being that he closed for the Chi Sox pretty well 2 years back. I wanna see how long this goes before I drop him.
