The one thing the Indians know about Coco Crisp's thumb injury is that it's bad enough to put him on the 15-day disabled list. Things get sketchy after that.

Crisp told reporters before Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels that he felt he'd be ready to play in seven to 10 days after spraining his thumb sliding into third base Tuesday night. He said team doctors told him it would take three weeks to heal.

The Indians placed Crisp on the DL on Wednesday based on a magnetic resonance imaging exam of the thumb. A hand specialist also will evaluate the test results.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Indians outfield once Coco gets healthy...

Just heard on Indians pregame that Coco's thumb is not a sprain, but a ligament tear, and he could miss as much as three months. He's going to see a specialist on Monday, and Tribe announcers said he may need surgery.

Crisp is gonna be out til august no matter what they do (yahoo notes). Hes not good enough to hold on to. Might as well drop him and pick someone else.

This is not necessarily true... I'm holding onto him until we figure out the extent of the injury. Yahoo said it COULD still be 3 months even without surgery. The latest is.

May 24 The Akron Beacon Journal reports Cleveland Indians OF Coco Crisp (thumb) received a favorable diagnosis on his sprained thumb, but the club would not elaborate on how much time Crisp might miss.

May 24 Updating previous items, Tom Withers, of the Associated Press, reports Cleveland Indians OF Coco Crisp (thumb) will not require surgery for his sprained thumb and could be out of action for just two weeks after the initial prognosis had called for a three-month absence. In the meantime, Crisp will wear a splint on his thumb for the next 3-to-5 days and will resume minimal baseball activities Friday, May 27.

As garf pointed out about minimal baseball activities resuming today, Coco was throwing a little bit out in the field before tonight's Indians game. Was wearing the splint/brace, but it's still more positive news.
