what are the best walk to strikeout for hitters and pitchers. i basically try and find guys who are close to 1:1 bb to k ratio, but what would be ideal for pitchers?

anything above 2.5:1 is very good

For pitchers, it's generally anything greater then 2K/BB.

Pedro struck out 313 and walked 37 in 1999 and in 2000 he struck out 284 and walked 32. So go by that.

As someone pointed out in an earlier thread, k/bb is a fine ratio but only really significant if the pitcher actually strikes batters out with regularity. A study showed that .58 k/ip (5.22 k/9) was the magic number at which era's went down a lot for pitchers with similar k/bb. You can believe this number or not, but requiring strikeouts when evaluating peripheral stats makes sense. Would you rather have a pitcher who in 100 ip has 30k and 10bb for a 3 k/bb or a pitcher who has 75k and 30bb for a 2.5 k/bb?

If a player has a negative PrOPS+ then he is actually playing better than his OPS shows and should improve that number soon.
