When you say put another layer on top what do you mean, just like a transparent level?
when making sigs, the more advanced the sig, generally more layers it has. example.
layer 1 original pic
layer 2 some added lighting/blending of player
layer 3 team logo background
layer 4 another bg pic of player
layer 5 gradient
layer 6 text
etc...
for your first few sigs, you may only have 3-4 layers. ive made very nice looking sigs with 2 or 3 or 4 layers, but i also have sigs with 15-20+. the more you go, the more things you'll learn how to do. again, i highly suggest you watch a few tutorials, and i know in no time given your artistic abilities, you'll be an expert.
