How do I, using gimp, crop a picture so I just have an image of the person, and no background. Like, if I was gonna crop George outta this pic, and I don't want the horse or the background.

there are a few methods. mostly, you "cut" using the different lasso tools. you basically just trace the outline of george washington and "cut" the rest of the picture out. you should find the lasso tools in your toolbar. there are a few different lassos you can use, so be sure to try out them out to see which one fits you best.

Ahk, I knew that, but I figured there was a better way. Cause with the lasso it's impossible to do it perfectly, your obviously still gonna get some background and its hard not to accidently cut a bit of your picture. Say I want to cut george from that picture then copy him onto a sig I've got the background made on, when I copy him won't the bits of background the lasso included come with George and make it look really bad? If that makes sense.

haha when i first started i was thinking it'd b impossible to use the lasso . its tough, i just zoom in a ton it makes it alot easier. sometimes u can use the fuzzy select tool. snakes like u said about the different kinds of lasos, from what ik i only see one type

not really. at first it seems impossible, but if you zoom in like abrage said, i think you'll be surprised at how good you can really make it look. also, some people use the eraser tool, to erase the background, which is essentially the same thing.

Quick little sig I made practicing with that, I think the eraser idea, but wouldn't that just make the background white and not get rid of it?
Edit: Another sig I made
In both sigs the Monkey looks on top of the sig and not part of it, am I just bad at the free form select, or is there something else I can do. Like the sig I have now Curious George looks like hes one with the sig.
Edit: What type of file should I save my sigs as? I tried Jpeg, but when I went to upload it for use on the cafe it was too many bytes. Thanks guys.
