More importantly, he is disciplined what he tries to do when he hits. If he's the first AB of an early inning, he will be trying to get on by hitting the ball hard on the ground- he also walks a bunch. If it's late in the game and he's up with no one on, he's swinging for the fences.
Most importantly, though, are his ABs with runners on. He is trying to put that ball in the gaps everytime there's a runner in scoring position. And he does it! His average with runners in scoring postion is .433... yes, that's .433!
i wish that more players would follow through with this simple philosophy!
especially the braves!

Yeah, he is real disciplined...he manages to get hurt all the time and has never played for more than 3 months in a row in his MLB career which goes all the way back to 2001. Ride his play while you can, but this guy makes Mike Sweeney look like the Rock of Gilbralter. "Oh my Wrist"...

If I were playing for the yankees I would pretend to be hurt all the time too

That's great stuff. So many people are dismissing Nick as a light hitter. But the kid keeps cranking out home runs, in addition to the high average. This is clearly a 25-30 HR guy, if he stays healthy all year.

Patterson is the most talented player IMHO, but if he stays bumped down in the order for the Cubs, you got to sit him for the hot hand Johnson for now.
