These are the guys that drive you the most nuts. They produce, but not when you want them to. There is nothing that will make you feel stupider than that. Here's my main culprit:
Overall season numbers to date
R 30
RBI 17
SB 0
TB 74
OBP .399
When in my starting lineup
R 9
RBI 7
SB 0
TB 22
OBP .310
I'm wondering if anyone here has game log numbers to confirm their suspicions.
I'm thinking the 89 point OBP difference between Shea Hillenbrand's season average and game log average is about as bad as you can mismanage someone. Can anyone "top" that?
Andruw Jones is by far the captain of this category. I also can't stand Travis Hafner's streakiness. My biggest benching peformance this year was the first time I benched Podsednik, happened to be the first game he stole 4 this season. Good move by me
AJ is too good and too consistent year to year to ever bench in Roto. If you are playing H2h he is not an ideal player to say the least, but in Roto he is money over the long haul and basically should never be benched. This is not the type of player you should be messing with day to day. You should really never mess with your top players and leave them in there all the time and unles syou play in a very shallow league, AJ should be starting every day.
You want a guy that falls into this category and is a killer...Durazo. What a waste of food. He is barely fantasy worthy in mixed leagues which means he is often bench material or platoon material to start with. You play him he hits nothing. Others are guys like Ibanez, Koskie and Sanders. It is not the studs that kill you, it is the marginal guys you play as fill-ins or to sub for hurt guys.
if you are going to draft a streaky player in roto -- like jones, just leave him in. He is consistent on a yearly basis, not weekly.
factor in the bad stats with your projections and leave him in. If you tinker too much, you lose the good stats. and if you shave off 5 or so hr's, what have you really got? you should just pick someone with a little less ceiling and more consistency -- it will cost you less on draft day.
