i think that you are talking about the guy that broke his shoulder or arm. i remember that too.
but don or joe was talking about a player that broke his hand.

I have heard of strains or breaks of wrists through quick motions (happened to me once playing ball). But never heard of breaking or dislocating a finger throwing a ball. Just does not seem possible unless some contact is made with something on the follow through or something like that. Obviously I guess it is possible.

you are probably right. i am not saying that it was a dislocation. the announcers were baffled as well. but from the look of the injury and the swelling they thought that it was a dislocated finger and that john wanted someone to pop it back into place.
but the finger swelled up pretty quickly. then they saw a tight shot of the finger and noticed that the injury was on the lower knuckle of the middle finger.
then they talked about a lot of things, but they really did not know what to think.
You know things are just going bad when you read stuff like this on one of the players you own in 5 leagues:
Rotoworld"
John Thomson is expected to miss at least one start with a strained finger tendon in his middle finger suffered tonight.
He will fly back to Atlanta in the next day or two to see a specialist. ''It's a freak accident,'' Thomson said. ''It just popped when I threw that fastball. Other than a shoulder injury I had in '99, I have never felt that much pain.'' If it turns out that the tendon is actually ruptured, Thomson could be in for a lengthy DL stint. Kyle Davies hasn't pitched very well at Triple-A Richmond, so we assume Adam Bernero would take over as the Braves' fifth starter if Thomson misses a significant amount of time.

Dave Dravecky is who you are thinking of and you're correct . He broke is arm while throwing a pitch.
I really didn't need yet another injury this year though.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
