Who's Better? Morris or Pettitte?

Who do you expect to put up better numbers for the rest of the year, and what might they be?

Andy Pettitte, SP, Hou

Matt Morris, SP, StL

I'm wondering the same thing, considering dropping Pettitte for Morris myself. I think Pettitte's the better pitcher but he has greater injury risk and he plays for a much crappier team. More wins for Morris are certain, but I'm not convinced he'll strike out as many and I think he'll give up more runs.

Views: There were probably a handful of fantasy owners who forgot about Morris this season due to his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. We hope you were not one of them given his solid 1.12 WHIP, 2.95 ERA, and 7.85 strikeouts per nine innings.

No doubt I'd go with Morris. I think the off-season surgery may have him back in his 2003 form.

Also, I don't think there's any reason to believe Pettite will have more K's. Their career K/9 ratios are almost identical (Morris 6.64 and Pettite 6.46). Plus Matt's two years younger.

Throw in the extra wins for playing on the best team in the NL and Morris is the easy pick here.

He should have more wins and is getting more K's. Biggest plus in his favor is that he doesn't have to face the Cards lineup.

Pettitte will probably have better numbers except Wins, Morris will destroy him in wins. K's will be pretty even, you forget that Pettitte's career is in the AL, he will get a good 30 more K's in the NL over a complete season.

He would have more K's if he was the Pettitte of old which I don't think he is. He doesn't have the same stuff and his K rate shows it.
