Beltran VS. Abreu from here on out

Abreu and not really close...say "hi" to a decent shot at 40/40, tons of steals, a high average, and an absolute yearn to be baseball's best player this season. Bye bye Beltran

Abreu was only marginally worse projected than Beltran before the season started, so without Beltran stealing bases (I don't think you can assume more than 10 from here on out based on the Mets' approach) I think it's Abreu in a rout.

Abreu by a mile at this point. I had him ranked slightly ahead of Beltran to start the season, but now that it appears Beltran is simply not running, it's not even close. Abreu might post better numbers in all five cats the way he's been playing.

Chill out... here are some numbers from a Baseball Prospectus article:

March/April stolen base percentages:

2004
Bobby Abreu - 0%

2003
Scott Podsednik - 2.3%
Carlos Beltran - 2.4%

That's one steal in Beltran's first month of '03. One. He ended up with 41.

Yes, we're halfway through month two, but you could still probably count on 35 steals.

Exactly. We fantasy managers sure are fickle, eh?
Beltran stole 27 bags after the break last year. All it would take is the green light at some point in the season, and he would be back in everyone's good favor.
That having been said, I don't know why any manager wouldn't let Beltran run. His caught-stealing rate is miniscule. Even the friggin' A's could send him and not worry about him costing them ABs.
Call me nuts, but I say Beltran for the rest of the year out. When a relatively consistent guy is below his projections, that means you get more of the good stuff and less of the bad the rest of the way out.
Abreu will not hit 40 dingers. Write it down.
