Is it possible to get into the HoF as a DH? I mean, his OF play is obviously not deserving. If I were a voter, it might be tough for me to vote him in even with his ridiculous skill at hitting a round ball with a cylindrical bat.
Maybe that's why I'm not a voter

Sure its possible, there are players in the Hall who probably would have been more valuable if they could have DH instead of taking the field. Chicks (and HoF voters) dig the long ball.
If he gets to 500 homers, there's no way he won't be in the HOF. He's been one of the most dominating hitters of his generation.
I've got to be honest, though....as a Yanks fan, I hope he doesn't play 3 more years. I haven't actually looked at the stats recently (and he's still a great hitter)...but I tend to think he's in a bit of a decline. He's also the kind of guy that would definintely retire before he's completely finished (and before hitting a benchmark statistic).
in response to a previous post, manny is not that bad of an outfielder. im not, of course, calling him andruw jones, but he has worked hard to become a better defensive player and over the past two years, it has shown. he has learned to play the monster quite nicely. he will still have his hiccups, but if you watch him day in and day out, youll find its his reputation that precedes him.

Its going to be really tough, but I doubt it. Manny just doesn't strike me as someone who will be playing into his 40s which is probably what it will take for him to make it.

No he is a very bad OF. He plays the easiest fielding position in the game and would be a DH on basically any team without Ortiz. Even with all that considered if he makes it to 500 HR he should have no problem getting into the Hall with all of his supporting numbers.

Manny is the best worst fielder I've ever seen. He can screw up the easiest of plays, but I've also seen him make plays that were extremely difficult.

Going to huge someday.
thats basically what im saying. he definately screws some plays up badly, but then he makes the most sensational plays you could believe. maybe im overrating him because of this fact, but i have seen him improve over the last three years. anyways, whether or not he makes it into the hall is dependent on his stick, end of story
With all the talk about his defensive ability, I still can't get that "cut off throw" from Johnny Damon that he came out of nowhere to grab...
It didn't need to be cut off.
Yes, I was, uh... I was thinking about ordering the tape, the videotape... about the college girls and the... the wild... the wildness. They're going wild or something? Somebody told me... about going wild.
