Navy Reserve question

ok, my brother wants to join the navy reserves and i think its a terrible idea for him personally and I'm looknig to see if any of you have done naval reserves or know someone who has and can offer a record of positives and negatives.

Why is it a terrible idea? Its the Naval Freakin Reserve, haven't you seen the Simpsons? You just sit around on your a$$ allt he time. :-D

its a bad idea for several reasons not germane to the question. not worth going into detail, but bottom line its a bad idea.

Actually the reserves are doing more deployments than the active duty these days.

Simpsons, now there is a good reference to make a career decision by.... :-t

do what ever you can to get him to not join, my neighbor, Larry Philippon, was just recently shot and killed in Iraq, it has been a very shitty week in my town...

Not a good time to join by any means...with so much turmoil right now its basically asking to get thrown into active duty.

That was my thinking as well. :-? And as The Truth said there are many reservists being called to activy duty, and it will only get worse as recruitment goals are not met. :-o

not so much for the Navy though. their cushion is pretty good right now. it's a few years down the raod when we have to amass a major warship and submarine presence in the china/north korea region is when the call will come. but that's beside the point and he's shortsightedly found himself 'ok' with that.

really, any info on someone's actual experience as a reservist before active duty is what i'm looking for. stuff like how it effects you career, reality vs. advertisement, that sort of thing. thanks for any who can shed some light.

well the man who recently passed away was in the marines for 3 years before going to iraq in january. from what i understand he enjoyed it, did alor of flag stff, regans funeral he carried the flag, been at alot of presidential events the past few years..

then he was sent to iraq and put on a 12 man mission, entered a building, got shot from underneath a few times.... :,-(

Oh, I had no idea. I thought all branches were pretty strapped for recruits.
