Rotoworld:
Ryan Dempster - S - Cubs
Manager Dusty Baker said he hopes to not use Ryan Dempster (bruised forearm) before Sunday.
Mike Remlinger or Michael Wuertz could close until then. May. 13 - 9:38 pm et
Maybe Wellemeyer is just a fill-in until Dempster comes back.

The 9th started with a 6-2 lead, but Remlinger got into a huge jam, gave up a run and Wellemeyer came into the game with the bases loaded and 2 outs, the winning run at the plate with Jose Guillen up, gave up a long fly ball that nearly left the yard but ended up a flyout.

he won't be cloasing any longer than Dempster is out. Dusty said he'd take it on a situational basis until Dempster is back in a few.

It won't happen, but I like Wellemeyer to get a shot at the closer's role. He's a little bit like Farnsworth, as far as good stuff, poor control. I just think Dusty should use late May/early June for closer auditions. Why not just try everyone.
Hell, I'm all for using Kerry Wood there when he gets back. The SOB's arm clearly can't go a full season as a starter, so maybe he could stay healthy for a full season in the BP. If Smoltz can swallow his pride and spend a couple seasons there, why can't Kerry?
