The Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote: If Gonzalez and his troublesome hamstrings get through today, he'll play three innings Saturday in right field.
"Juan ran the bases, took batting practice and did some work in the outfield in a controlled environment and came through all right," Soloff said, referring to Gonzalez's preparation for today.
Gonzalez, 35, is scheduled to start playing nine-inning games next week. "A rehab assignment in a definite possibility after that," Soloff said.
Gonzalez, a two-time American League MVP in Texas, strained both hamstrings in spring training. After recovering from a sore left hamstring in early March, manager Eric Wedge named Gonzalez his starting right fielder on March 27. Gonzalez, on the same day, injured his right hamstring making a catch in right field and has been unable to play since.
The Indians are paying Gonzalez $600,000.
I for one will believe it when I see it though as far as if/when he makes it back up to the majors.
