That really is pretty disturbing. Living things shouldn't be dissected for experiments. Wouldn't do that to a person, besides a braindead one for organs. I can understand in med school, but AP Biology students will probably not become med students, except for a few.

OK I heard about this story somewhere else and from what I remember it seems that the story in the link provided is leaving out details.

From my understanding it was an abdominal surgery at a vets office for an abandoned dog that was about to be put down because it was too aggressive and unfit for adoption. That story makes it seem like they randomly cut open a stray dog and pulled out its guts.

I find this "outrage" from the students and parents a bit blown out of proportion. Maybe the teacher needed to explain what they were going to see a bit better for the kids to decide whether they would be comfortable attending the surgery. I really don't see anything wrong with this. This surgery was a chance for the students to view the digestive system in a live state. If this was something that made the students uneasy then they should have spoken up before-hand and been given the proper out.

I don't see what the big deal is. We pluck plants everyday for 'science' or enjoyment. Why can't dogs be apart of that mix. You could say I'm reaching becuase dogs have emotions, but in most/all religons dogs dont go to heaven.
