Anyone still holding onto Robert Person?

Postby Guest » Fri May 23, 2003 11:33 am

He hasn't looked too sharp thus far, but with the way the Sox bullpen is going, I think he still has a shot at the closer role. Lyon has performed well lately, so I don't think Person will grab onto that role in the next few weeks. Is he just dead weight on my roster, or is he worth holding on to?

Lyon looked great the other night against the Yankees. I would only hold onto Person if you were desparate for saves and have an open roster spot. Otherwise, I would drop him.

I think that's still anyone's guess, but like you said, it looks like Lyon is the guy right now. If you have room for him and really need the saves, I'd hang on to him for a bit longer. But, if you have a couple other decent closers, or need the roster spot for another position, I'd drop him.

In everything I have read the Sox have made it clear that Lyon is the closer. He's also performed well in save situations, so I don't see Person closing anytime soon.

The newest rumour is that the Red Sox are going to send Hillenbrand and possibly another player to the DBacks for Byun Hyun Kim. They'd then either use Kim as the closer or stick Kim in the rotation and use Wakefield as the closer. It's probably alot smarter for them to get Kim, because he's a hell of alot better than Alfonseca.

I'm holding onto him, but I am desperate for saves.

Baez/Izzy/Eldred/Alfonseca/Person. are my motley RP crew. I'm hoping within 2-3 weeks Izzy is back, and either Alf or Person finds his way into a closer spot. I have limited my bench for the short term, but I can gain 6 points (17 saves) easy if I can get Izzy and either Alf, Person or some other unknown as a closer.
