I personally think he did good for the Royals by having that magical 2003 season.

I've said ever since that streak, that hot start to the 2003 season probably hurt the development of this team more than it helped. Thanks to that hot start against (almost exclusively) two very pathetic teams, the Royals read more into the talent than what they actually had. It led management to believe we were a Juan Gonzalez and a Benito Santiago away from winning the division instead of starting two years ago the youth movement they are going through right now.

The season didn't come unexpected to realistic Royals fans. Its called rebuilding for a reason. Is it frustrating? Sure, but it is better to see the club doing the right thing instead of bringing in high-priced, one year free agents so the team will only lose 90 games this season.
