Who would be next in line if Francona decides to move Foulke out of the closer role?? I can't imagine him letting this go on much longer dont you think? Coming into the season he was supposed to be my #1 closer... so far that hasnt worked out
I am, I've had this guy all year, and thought he would be solid going in because of many oppurtunities with the Boston lineup. Turns out, oppurtunites are worse for him cause he blows every frickin save. I am trading him right now, I don't care if he's buy low or whatever he blows
Fantasy Baseball is the best spent 100 hours of my week!
I'm more angry than worried... because I own Clement, not Foulke...
But you gotta imagine Francona can only stand so much more of this tomfoolery before he puts his foot down. This guy is costing the Red Sox games. He had a three run lead in the ninth with two outs. Boston baseball fans must be screaming for Foulke's blood!
Foulke isn't going to get sacked. He's one of the top 5 closers in the game, and you think they're going to take him out b/c he's started off slow? His pitches are still nasty, but his location is just not on. If you watched the game, you'd have known that for the first part of the inning his stuff was nasty, but with 2 outs, he kept missing his locations, and finally left a hanger to Byrnes. There's no need to worry. He'll be the closer unless he gets 10 blown saves in a row....then he MIGHT be moved out of the closer role.

Going to huge someday.
Really? Ask the Orioles, Yankees, Angels, Astros, Dodgers, Twins and a handful of other clubs ... right now if they would trade their closer for Foulke straight up.
As a closer, you are only as good as your last 3-5 performances.
It's not a role that tolerates long "slumps."
His past track record may buy him a little more time than the average Joe, but if he continues at this rate for 1-2 weeks, I'd say his job is in jeoparady. Even if its a temporary removal from the role.
