2005 MLB Draft

Well since it's coming up fairly soon, I thought I would get a thread rolling on it. Just a place where anyone can talk about the upcoming draft or ask questions.

I'll be curious if Justin Upton goes No. 1 overall. With Arizona looking like they won't sign Drew, seems even more likely.

I'll also be curious as to which players are represented by Boras and whether the issues of signing Drew and Weaver will adversely affect their draft position. Won't affect his asking price.

Lastly, as to Drew and Weaver, it'll be fun to see who takes them if they reenter the draft and whether the big money clubs will bail Boras out.

I had seen a list of Boras clients on a recent http://www.baseballamerica.com chat. I think they have a page devoted to the draft which is quite interesting...

I think there is a good likelyhood that Upton goes #1 but we'll just have to wait and see.

What kind of player will Justin upton be sililar to? And what about this Drew guy?

Upton's skill set is similar to his brother's, BJ. He has five-tool potential. He is currently playing shortstop, but there is a pretty good chance that he will move to CF when drafted.

Stephen Drew (JD's brother) was Arizona's first round choice from last year, but has yet to sign. Drew is a shortstop like Upton currently is. Even if they do happen to sign him, I don't think that would decrease the odds of Arizona taking Upton, because, as stated earlier, he could move to center.

when do u see Justin playing in the bigs...2006? Or most likely 07?

is he a "can't miss" guy?

His first full year will be 2006, so it's to hasty to say he will then since he hasn't hit in the minors yet. He should get a shot in 2007, probably just a Sept. call up though ... that would give him about 2 years in the minors. If he stays at SS, it could possibly slow him down more since he will have to work on his defense. A lot of scouts say if he moves to CF he could fly through the minors.

Justin is about as can't miss as you can get for a H.S. hitter. He has every tool and then some, he's better then B.J. at the same age.
