Here is todays update. Too bad, still no timetable on his return.
He's feeling worse today than he did last night, which he said is to be expected.
His motion is very limited but he managed to drive himself to the ballpark today.
Dr. Paletta will examine him again during the game, and then recommend diagnostic tests, which will be conducted tomorrow.
The Cardinals are holding off on any DL decisions pending the outcome of those tests.
But trainer Barry Weinberg said Rolen likely will miss the trip to NY for the 3-game series at Shea.
Right now it's being classified (still) as a sprain. Weinberg said this one is different than the injury during 2002 postseason. In 2002, Rolen separated the AC joint. This is more of a muscle injury. Weinberg described it as a "shifting" and not a separation. It's less stressful and serious. Said Weinberg: "His pain is not the same as last time. His incapacity isn't the same as last time."
If La Russa thinks Rolen will miss a week, he'll keep the roster spot open and work around it. If Rolen goes on the DL, Luna and Seabol are the top candidates for recall.
Oh, and Rolen had fish sticks for a snack at 5 p.m. in the players' lounge. With lots of ketchup.
Just heard on ESPN radio that he's more than likely going to the DL. I kinda came in late on the snippet where they were talking about him so I could have missed something, though it doesn't sound like he's really improving from reports I've seen.
Hopefully he isnt out too long. And when he comes back he gets in a groove quickly to make up for lost time.
per ESPN-
ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen will likely be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left shoulder, the team physician said Wednesday night.
The Associated Press is reporting St. Louis Cardinals 3B Scott Rolen (shoulder) will likely be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left shoulder. An MRI exam is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, at which point a decision will be made.
Let me tell you, as a Rolen owner, if someone could guarantee me he'll be out 3 weeks but come back healthy as a horse, I'd take that deal in a second. I think part of the luck that goes into fantasy sports is not only that you players stay relatively healthy, but that when they do go down it's not for a long time.
I'm hearing 6 weeks now. I think Rolen is an MVP candidate every year because of the way he does it with the glove and the bat.....Some of the plays he makes at 3rd base are just amazing. So smooth...Not good for you Cards fans.
The NL central has been weak so far this year however, so im not expecting the Cardinals to lose their number one standing without Rolen, but it still hurts.[/quote]
I read 6 weeks on a few sites. For the guy asking about options at third base, if you are in a deep NL only league, like I am, there will be a run at John Mabry for a fill in. He will get most of the games I think.
