Keeper League Trade Eval: Chavez for Hudson

Postby Tread42 » Sat Jan 11, 2003 10:36 am

I'm in a 9 team keeper league. I give up Chavez and get Hudson. We keep up to 5 players. With this trade it would make my keepers.

Vlad G.
Jason Giambi
Curt Schilling
T.Hudson/Chavez without the trade

And I don't think I'd keep Rich Aurillia or Ray Durham.

Opinions?

I'd pull the trigger on that deal in a second!

I like the deal, unless you'd rather not have two pitchers among your keepers. Both Hudson and Chavez have bright futures, and both would be worth a spot on your roster (unlike Durham/Aurilia - I agree with you there). Personally, I'd agree with BurghBob and would go with Hudson, but I don't think there's a huge gap separating them in value.

Would you guys let it sway your decision, if you had to play a corner infielder? I usually stick a first baseman there anyway since they typically out produce 3B.

I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger. The only thing keeping me from it is that Chavez outscored Hudson last year. But that was last year.....

Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

What league format are you using? Roto, points, head-to-head?

While its a even trade, i prefer Chavez myself. Eric is just 25, so hes still not peaked. I also dont like my keepers at a 50/50 split.

With that scoring, I'd still be slightly more inclined to go with Hudson. It looks to me as if consistent pitching should be one of the keys here, and Hudson would provide exactly that. It still seems awfully close, though - HOOTIE's point that Chavez still hasn't been able to reach his potential has to be considered as well.

Seems like this comes down to a matter of opinion (and playing style) more than a clear difference in value. Using a corner infielder probably wouldn't change my preference here.

I agree people who refer to dollar values limit the value of their comments. If I don't play the same scoring system it doesn't matter at all.
