This is the guy who chose to sign Eric Chavez and Barry Zito instead of Miguel Tejada, Jason Giambi (before Balco flop), Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder.
Sometimes you should dance with the lady who brought you.
He has saved the team money and guaranteed the players extra time to heal in the off-season. Don't look for Oakland in the playoffs for the next couple of years.

Yeah why would anyone sign a homegrown 3b talent that has an excellent glove and puts up consistent numbers because they may slump every now and then during their contract?! And going back 3 years ago you would have signed Zito also.

In fantasy: Tejada > Chavez
In real life: Chavez > Tejada
And he didn't choose to resign Zito instead of Mulder or Hudson. It was just that he could get a LOT more for Mulder and Hudson than he could for Zito. Also, since the A's are a small market team, it would have been almost impossible to give Hudson or Mulder the kind of money they could get on the open market.

Please tell me how you'd like to keep all those players on a $50 million payroll.

i would have signed zito - but i don't have a legion of worshipers who praise every move i make
wasn't one of the big examples of the success of beane's drafting strategy supposed to be taking zito over ben sheets?? who would you rather have now?
i will give him some cradit for getting haren for mudler but trading hudson a year before his contract expired for meyer? wouldnt that be a nice bargaining chip for a contender this midseason
ps that offense is terrible

tejada has been the MVP once already - he led the league in RBI last year and his on his way to being among the leaders this year - he is at least in the top 5 fielding shortstops (a much tougher position to fill with a quality player than 3rd) - is this entire statement based on OBP? i mean come on - giambi has about a .400 OBP right now - is he really helping the Yanks?

I still don't agree with this.
If the Bay Area is a small market, then there's only 2 or 3 big market teams in baseball.
