It's not like he has a low ERA, but a high WHIP like El Duque has. He has very quietly put up quality start after quality start. Could be a nice sleeper for someone who has a spot on their bench for a spot starter.

Yes, I've noticed. Even if my pitching already wasn't as deep as it is, I still wouldn't pick him up. I have PDJCS. Post-Dramatic-Jose-Contreras-Syndrome. I picked him up and dropped him three times last year. He's a tease and I don't like teases. I know as soon as I pick him up his head will go to crap again. BE WARNED!!!
between him and loaiza, i got killed last week. who knows. now that no one is looking and he'll get some decent coaching, maybe contreras will be a decent pitcher.

Though he does have some upside.....I just don't trust him after last year. It seems like nearly everyone on CWS is hot as ever right now, so I think the only way they'll all go, is down. Expect this to be his ceiling.

I couldn't agree more. I've been riding the highs of several White Sox pitchers so far, but am prepared to dump most of them at the first sign of trouble. If you do pick him up you need to be very careful and watch him like a hawk.

ERA 2.60, Whip of 1.12.
What's not to like? Oh yeah, he's not on the Yankees anymore...
Anyone up for starting FireCashman.com ?
I picked him up off the waiver wire after his last start. I tend to believe that he will be more than adequate now that he is out of the NY spotlight. By the way, it could have been worse.....I could have signed Chan Ho Park instead of Contreras.
