Young MI's? Who breaks out?

Postby demondemon » Sun May 08, 2005 9:35 pm

Lots of young talent this year at 2nd & short...

Who do you think has the skills to make a solid fantasy MI?

J Bartlett - was doing well but is in a little slump and losing PT
J Cantu - was on fire but has been benched last few games (but homered today)
Nick Green- Taking away time from Cantu it seems.
Bill Hall - Getting some PT at ther top of the order.
Felipe Lopez - getting a lot of play time with Jimenez sucking
Russ Adams - pretty hot the last week or 2
Jack Wilson - can he put up the numbers he did last year

Anyone i'm missing? (didnt include Barmes as he is a given for top spot right now)

I like Adams in that potent Jays offense (they string hits together well). I also like Green, but I thnk he is more of a small baller so he should have a great OBP all year. Cantu could be a good MI, but his PT has started to get cut due to some slumping.

Bartlett is the class of this field by a longshot.

Think hes worthy of a roster spot in a keeper?

Absolutely. He's the one guy in this group with a proven track record, albeit in the minors. He has a good eye, some pop, and speed. Hitting 9th and getting the occasional day off won't hurt him.

Green, Cantu, Hall, Lopez are all very marginal. Adams doesn't do much of anything and is just keeping the spot warm for Hill. Wilson simply sucks ass, despite what he did last year.

I know his stats are Coors inflated, but how is Clint Barmes not part of this conversation?

I've been high on Adams since I was making my draft charts before the season started. If you look at his numbers at the end of last season you can see the potential there. In his first 72 ML AB's he hit 4 homers and was over .300. He was a 1st rd pick by Ricciardi in 2002 who has a terrific history of making picks work in the ML's. I think Adams has great upside and if they finally start playing him every day (and against lefties) he will put up very respectable numbers.

Adams had 13 HRs in 1272 career minor league at bats. He should hit for average, he has a nice BB/K ratio, and he should get the odd SB, but I don't really see how he projects as more than a below average regular/utility man.

Aaron Hill is far and away the better player.
